Turn sheets into wealth

Tired of being busy but not rich? This is for you.

Ply to Profit is the book for the Indian plywood retail counter. Read it, then join the free weekly webinar where the framework is explained live.

  • Lakhs of stock on the rack, and no cash in the bank.
  • Credit given because “everyone does”, and dread on collection day.
  • No week off in years, because the counter cannot run without you.
  • You know there is a better way. Nobody has ever shown it to you.

The 5 mistakes quietly killing your plywood counter.

Each week Er. Deepanshu Agarwal walks retailers through five mistakes that feel like good decisions on the day, and hands over one free framework for one retailer pain point. Nothing is sold in the session.

  1. 1

Credit is given from the heart, not from the ledger

Udhaar dil se diya jaata hai, hisaab se nahi

  2. 2

Goods leave the counter and nothing is written down

Counter se maal jaata hai, par ek jagah likha kahin nahi jaata

  3. 3

The contractor is treated as only a commission agent

Contractor ko sirf commission ka aadmi samajhna

  4. 4

All day goes to firefighting, and marketing is seen as a cost

Poora din aag bujhane mein, aur marketing ko kharcha samajhna

  5. 5

Orders go by guesswork, and the guess is always too high

Order andaaze se jaata hai, aur andaaza hamesha zyada hota hai

I did not inherit this business.

Er. Deepanshu Agarwal · Manufacturing · Wholesale · Retail

No family factory waiting to be taken over. No established brand to build on. No ready list of customers. What I had instead was a broken factory and a reason to fix it.

I am an engineer by education and a plywood business strategist by choice. I have run this trade from all three sides of the counter, which is why I write about the business and not about sheets.

  • A small unit in Bareilly, carrying serious debt, on machinery the market had already outgrown.
  • Repairing and replacing almost every machine on the floor, before a single saleable sheet.
  • The first sheet came off the rebuilt line. Not the end of the work, the beginning of it.
  • My brother and I opened our own retail counter and a wholesale operation, to learn the business from the inside.
The factory
2,100 sqm→15,000 sqm

In eleven years, on the same site in Bareilly.

The counter
500 sq ft→9,000 sq ft

From a rented shop to an owned solution counter.

0Credit. The retail counter runs on a zero-credit policy.

Manufacturing taught me the product. The counter taught me the business.

What I stand for

Quality never fails

My father's rule, and the one I have tested at every stage since. When the product is good and the intention is right, you are always on the right track.

Goodwill is the real asset

A retailer's most valuable asset is not his stock or his location. It is the trust he has built, one guarantee at a time. It should be protected, not spent.
